DIY Igus Slider

This has to be the piece of gear that I talked the most about without ever showing it up. Until now! What is a slider? Of all the gear you can add to your video tool box, a slider is probably the one that will add the most production value to your clips. Notice how the camera rarely stands still ...

HDSLR Log and transfer tool for FCP

Vincent Laforet just made a post about something one of my friend has been talking to me about for a few while: a plugin to log and trasfer HDSLR clips directly in Final Cut Pro. As Vincent points out, this is a big thing for a lot of people. It will not make your images look better but it will ...

D3s video mode mini review

Last night, I had the opportunity to do a few quick test with the D3s. Having played a few times with my friends’ D3, I was already comfortable with its weight/balance/ everything is the opposite of Canon features so no shock there. I tested the camera with a 14-24f2.8 and a 24-70f2.8 which are both regarded as very good Nikon ...

Tested the D3s last night!

Just a quick heads up to say that I will post tonight a short test clip I did last night with the D3s at ridiculous ISO setting (ISO 25-102k). My only comment is “wow!”. Even with a f2.8 aperture, the camera was able to see stuff that my eyes could not! Imagine how it will perform with a ‘real’ low ...

HDSLR Conference, the day after

Gave the first of my two talks last night at the Montreal Final Cut user group with Mathieu. It was a fun night and I learned a lot from others experiences. Some people raised very specific questions that I couldn’t answer right away so I will use the blog to answer them in the next few days. The attendees were ...

HDSLR conference tomorrow

I have spent the last few days working on the content for my presentation at the HDSLR conference at the Montreal Final Cut Pro user group. My thoughts about the 5DMrkII firmware update

A little bit eclipsed by the announcement of the 1DMrkIV, the announcement of an upcoming firmware update for the Canon 5DMrkII that would give it 24p and 25p is, for most people much more news worthy. The first benefit of shooting in 24p is, of course, getting the elusive film look we have been talking about since almost a year. ...

I am going to be a speaker at the MtlFCP meeting

Things might have been quite on the blog but not for me! I have been invited to present HDSLR at the Montreal Final Cut Pro user group. This is a great honor for so many reasons, the first being that the MtlFCP group is huge and the tickets for the show sold out in less than two days! Of course, ...

D3s is out, but no need to pay attention.

It is out, and while I don’t really enjoy Nikon bashing because I think they make great stills camera, I have to say that I am not impressed. While it is going to be a great tool for photographers who wants to be able to shoot occasional clips, its lack of manual control over fps, short HD clip duration (5mins) ...
